A Day of Double Blessing

It's a story that is entirely about love and doing good. Between people, couples and family. No one will ever be able to convince me that there is even an ounce of something wrong here.

How we waited for them!

They emerged into the world one after the other. Daphna came out and opened a large pair of eyes, exploring the world around her while waiting for the doctor to turn her sister and pull her out to the air. Danielle cooperated, and within ten minutes was already staring at us as well. 17 hours of labor ended in a beautiful, so beautiful birth. A double blessing.

It wasn't easy, waiting for the double blessing of them. This wouldn't have been possible only a few years ago. The entire, most up-to-date human knowledge and experience in Technology and Science were needed to achieve their birth: the ability to harvest human female eggs, fertilize them under specific conditions, choose the most viable embryos – one from each Dad – prepare the uterus, plant them, monitor them…no, it's absolutely not the regular way of nature, but all the aspects of our lives are not the way nature intended them to be, so why should this be different. Anyone who knows me knows that I am in awe of this human Technological-Scientific ability, even without being the very proud grandmother. Even more so, when I am.

But all the kings knowledge and all the kings experience wouldn't change a bit without the most important thing that enabled Roy and Erez to become a family: a woman with a giant heart, who decided she wants to give the beautiful gift of family happiness to another couple. Today, after I have met this incredible woman, there is no doubt in my heart: this was not a money-making decision. Yes, money is involved, but it isn't the main reason she decided to be a surrogate mother, not to mention the surrogate of twins. Not even close. Money can buy a uterus, but no amount of money in the world can buy the complete partnership, deep sensitivity and smiling support that she gave to the excited fathers throughout the entire process. It couldn't buy the shining light in her eyes when she saw them holding their newborn daughters. And it absolutely couldn't buy the generosity of heart she displayed when she so naturally and willingly allowed me, a stranger she had met only a few hours before, to be at her side in the delivery room and be an active participant in the birth of my granddaughters. How can you begin to thank someone who has given you such a gift?

I am sitting in the hospital room, watching the wonder of this double blessing. I am already learning to know each of them, their similarities and differences. Daphna already has some stomach aches, Danielle is very happy with her pacifier. the two of them are making the soft noises that babies make when they just begin discovering life, and their fathers are fast asleep.

Words are my milieu. They are the major tool I use in this world. But even I can't find the words that can truly describe this entire experience. I am trying, but you should know that everything I am writing here should be doubled in reality. It's a story that is entirely about love and doing good. Between people, couples and family. No one will ever be able to convince me that there is even an ounce of something wrong here. And for those who need signs, the girls were born on Tuesday. The day of Double Blessing. An amazing blessing.
